Sachin Tendulkar & his retirement tales!

It’s certainly a surprise for cricket lovers and Sachin Tendulkar fans in particular for Master Blaster these days is coming in spotlight for all other reasons except his innings on the field. While some days back, Tendulkar was in news for being honored with ‘Order of Australia award’ that led to an uproar on social networking sites. And now, fresh set of questions are being raised about his retirement plans. Ah, not again!

I fail to understand why everyone is after Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement. Hasn’t the living legend with his consistent batting given enough reasons to his fans and selectors to let him continue play the gentleman’s game for a few more years? Despite this, it’s annoying to see such speculations coming into the picture every now and then.

What irked me more was when veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar came out in open and expressed his urge that Sachin Tendulkar should have a word with selectors about his future plans. Oh really! Will someone please go and tell Mr. Gavaskar that he need not be so worried about Tendulkar’s cricketing career. Just because Master Blaster has not recorded any significant run score and neither he has hit any major century or a half does not mean that his career is nearing its end and he should plan retirement.

Somehow I have never come to terms with such momentary parameters to judge a cricketer’s performance and decide his fate. Low score in one particular series and endless fingers will be pointed at a cricketer of Tendulkar’s stature who has proved to be Team India’s savoir at many occasions. Not done!

Even if speaking with selectors solve the purpose and they persuade Tendulkar to retire, I don’t see any younger boy capable of filling this void whatsoever. The charm, passion and consistency that Sachin Tendulkar brings in his game, no one else can get an inch closer to that. And after looking at the way his contemporaries Rahul Dravid, Vinod Kambli, Sourav Ganguly and others have vanished in oblivion after they retired from mainstream cricket, I just wish that Sachin Tendulkar stays in the limelight for some more time.

So, when should Tendulkar retire? When he turns 50, you mean. You know, Maya. He is a victim of Maya. He can simply not imagine himself doing anything else other than playing cricket. That is not obsession, that is immaturity. If he wants to play, he can play with his son. What does he want? Another 100 centuries? Another 23 years? Tendulkar is a 39 year old kid. Buy an Oxford Dictionary and look up the diffrrence between child like and childish? You will understand.
