Ricky Ponting’s retirement marks the end of an era. Yes, his decision to quit international cricket was momentous. Cricket fans across the world were taken aback by the retirement announcement. There’s a reason why the announcement received strong emotions. Ponting is for sure one of the finest batsmen and the greatest ever captain. For Australian fans he is second after Don Bradman. His test record is second only to master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. No matter how hard he used to be on the field but off it Ricky Ponting was class personified, always forthright with the media, even during his lowest moments.
The sad part was that Ricky Ponting’s career came to an end with a whimper than a bang, when he was dismissed for 8 runs to leave his beloved Australia heading for certain defeat against South Africa.
POnting has always been a team man, right down to his decision to quit international cricket. He had one of the best sides to captain and came out as the best and most successful Cricket captain ever in the history of International cricket.
I truly like & appreciate his decision of stepping down and making space for other aspiring players. Also perfect time to allow new batsman to take over & sap in before back-to-back Ashes series begins.
Though, Ponting’s retirement leaves Australia with a big hole to fill… so all the best to the entire team.
Anyways, we all wish you good luck. At the same time feels sorry that it had to end this way, but if you had stayed on, probably the end would have been less than a whimper. Hope all cricket lovers will wish him a fond farewell… All the best Ponting!!!
