Delhi gang rape: Amitabh Bachchan’s claim to fame

Amitabh Bachchan has donated Rs 2.5 lakhs to the widow of the Delhi Police constable who died in the tussle between protestors and the police at India Gate following the gang rape of a 23 year old paramedical student. Mr Bachchan very generously donated the prize money that he had honored with for his leadership in the community by the South Indian Education Society (SIES) on Tuesday. Very generous of the Big B except of course he took to his Twitter page to pat himself on the back.

So the widow of Subhash Chand Tomar should be so lucky to get the cash prize of 2.5 lakhs. And then have to deal with a major celebrity like Amitabh Bachchan lauding himself over it to take the limelight from a otherwise sad situation. If Big B truly wanted to show his generosity, it could have been done with the aid of Twitter and other social networking sites. How is it that every major celebrity has not done anything other than take to their respective social networking sites to express shame and outrage. Surely that the easiest thing in the world to do dear Bollywood!

But then again I forgot Bollywood-wallahs like Mr Bachchan can’t resist the urge to bask in the limelight of the common man’s tragedy. Such are the ways of the gods…with feet of clay.
