Unlike the Khan brigade in our Bollywood industry, Akshay Kumar has never really vied hard to get attention from media or his fans. It just comes like that – without much of pain. Keeping at bay with any major controversies or alleged link-ups with female co-stars, Akshay, over past so many years, has enjoyed a stature without maligning his image. Must say, he’s one of those rare Bollywood actors, who do not believe that negative publicity is good publicity.
More than anything else, the series of ‘Khiladi’ films that Akshay has done in his acting stint so far has transformed into a brand in itself. It won’t be wrong to say that ‘Khiladi’ series added value to Akshay’s journey in film industry.
It all began in 1992 with Abbas Mustan’s ‘Khiladi’ where Akki played a young college student and gets trapped in a murder case. ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ brought to light actor’s humorous side, as he played a funny cop along with Saif Ali Khan. ‘Sabse Bada Khiladi’ with Mamta Kulkarni didn’t create great magic, but Akshay was soon back with ‘Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi’ where hi sizzling hot on-screen chemistry with Rekha was tough to overlook. ‘Mrs. & Mr. Khiladi’ with Juhi Chawla once again left Akshay Kumar fans split into laughter. ‘International Khiladi’ was possibly the best one in the series not because of the film but because Akki met his now wife Twinkle Khanna for this movie. ‘Khiladi 420’ had the actor trying several stunts but it failed to garner eyeballs.
And now after a 12-year-long hiatus, Akshay Kumar is back with a bang in ‘Khiladi 786’ that stars south siren Asin in the main lead alongside the actor. Having seen the promos of the film, I’m sure that Akshay has only grown leaps and bounds in his acting and on-screen charm, plus and the actor knows well by now what it takes to make viewers glued to their seats. Though Akshay has acted in several other films besides his ‘Khiladi’ series but with such firm grip on his ‘Khiladi’ brand, he has declared that it’s only his territory and he’s the undefeatable king. Let’s see if ‘Khiladi 786’ can recreate the same magic on screen. I can’t wait to watch an all-new Akshay Kumar back in his Khiladi avatar.
